Goodspeed Literacy

Goodspeed Literacy is based in Castro Valley, California teaching using the structured phonics approach which is proven by research to the be most effective way to learn to read.

We offer sessions in your home or school to accelerate your child's growth. Our service area depends on our schedule and commute times, but we can also accommodate families with online video sessions as well.  We also offer expert support with math, writing, spelling, and executive functioning.

We have success with many students with learning disabilities including dyslexia, ADHD, dysgraphia, as well as with students on the autism spectrum. We also offer accelerated learning for neurotypical students.

Timothy Goodspeed

2nd grade teacher at Academy of Alameda

Timothy was home-schooled throughout his education until he started his undergrad. He was and is a dedicated learner, and he directed much of his education, and for the subjects that weren't his favorite, he created timelines so he could finish them early for the year. He is passionate about literacy and math for all and has worked tirelessly to ensure that even his students with learning differences and diverse backgrounds still get those essential skills that they need.

Timothy has taught for the last 8 years and has worked with every grade K-5 in that time. For the last 3 years, he taught 2nd grade at the Academy of Alameda, and the year before that, he taught 4th at the same school. He is a big advocate for structured phonics (the science of reading) to be taught to every student because of the incredible success he saw with his students while teaching with the SIPPS program, especially for his struggling readers.

Timothy has his Master's Degree from the University of the Pacific in Education, and a level II teaching credential from the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing.

Celebrating Chuesok at SLP

Although I grew up in a family of educators (3rd generation!),  I didn't initially accept the teaching position in South Korea to be a teacher. I was excited to travel the world and have the opportunity to live and engage with a new culture. As I started teaching, I realized the love and passion that drives this career are deep within me, and I have not been out of a classroom since. As we know, the teaching profession is not celebrated and does not come with fame and success, yet thousands of us do it. Why? The passion, love, and overall creativity that comes from working with children push me every day. Whether with an entire class or an individual student, I love working with children and watching them blossom and shine into the changemakers they are!
